Gustav Dahl - Master of Science in Engineering (M.Sc.Eng)

Summary Master of Science in Engineering

I hold a Master of Science degree in Engineering from the Technical University of Denmark (DTU).
My main fields in engineering are Network Technology, telecommunication, privacy, cybersecurity, digitalisation and society, and electronics.

I am collaborating with some of the leading professors in my field in Network Technology, Privacy, and Cybersecurity.
Conducted special research projects in collaboration with Professor Lars Dittmann (Head of Networks Technology and Service Platforms and member of IT security board at the Technical University of Denmark) and Professor Leif Oxenloewe (Group leader of High-Speed Optical Communications and honoured with several research awards including the prestigious Horizon prize). Frequently, invited to share my knowledge and research both as a university teacher and as a public speaker. Received praise for my ability to not only "enlighten students" but also my ability to educate the general public about Internet security with "pedagogical explanations, vivid analogies, and diverse examples".

Challenging problems and developing solutions motivate me, and I have been highly acknowledged for working independently, overcoming obstacles, and innovative thinking. In my work it is of paramount importance to have a high level of integrity. I am very particular in documenting my research and results with appropriate references. The above-mentioned competences are evident from several recommendations from corporate managers and college professors including Professor Lars Dittmann.

Additionally, I have had articles published on cybersecurity and privacy in ComputerWorld Denmark. ComputerWorld is the magazine covering a range of technology topics. Currently, working on two large research projects i.e. the impact of digitalisation on society and security risks associated with the routing protocol BGP. These two projects will provide university course material revolutionising cybersecurity and digitalisation. My research has led to being interviewed for an extended period of time at one of Denmark's largest radio stations on cybersecurity, digitalisation etc. (Radio24syv).

Practical Experience Master of Science in Engineering

Worked with several companies, universities, and private persons as a consultant and researcher on cybersecurity, digitalisation, and privacy issues.

  • Teaching, lecturing, and tutoring, combining my research with exercises and class discussions at The Technical University of Denmark. Lectures have also been held via video-link with great results.

  • Lecturer at e.g. Scandinavian Academic Society, Zürich Switzerland, Tybjerg Parish and SDSK under SAS Data (Scandinavian Airlines Systems Data).

  • Worked 6 months at Global Connect A/S Denmark determining and sizing fibre backbone capacity needed for Mobile Network Operators (Global Connect is Denmark's leading provider of fibre network, data centres, and cloud solutions). The project resulted in optimizing network capacity, minimizing network congestion, and increasing network throughput.

  • Installation and configuration of IP networks for various companies e.g. Nielsen and Touboel Co. Ltd., Denmark - and installation and configuration for private persons.

  • Configuration and installation of IP networks and Ascom switchboards. Developed a queuing system to minimize waiting time for incoming calls to the switchboard in collaboration with electrician John Olsen from Fugmann Electrical Installations Co. Ltd.

  • Computer support, network configuration, and web-design for various companies e.g., Lawfirm Radil (Copenhagen, Denmark), JustChange inc. (Copenhagen, Denmark), and for various private persons. Also installed and instructed financial data security systems.

  • Laboratory work on Fibre Couplings and Optical Time Division Multiplexer including determining optimal configuration of amplifiers and repeaters etc. at the Technical University of Denmark in collaboration with college professors including Professor Leif Oxenloewe (Group leader High-Speed Optical Communications).

  • IP network simulations on routing protocols including BGP in collaboration with Professor Lars Dittmann (Head of Networks Technology and Service Platforms, Technical University of Denmark)

  • Author of various articles on cybersecurity, digitalisation, and privacy published in ComputerWorld Denmark (most read article for several weeks).

  • Working on publishing my research project on digitalisation and the societal impact delineating both dangers and solutions. This publication will be for the academic community and the general public. Also working on a larger technical book project concerning routing and BGP (Border Gateway Protocol) presenting research and innovative solutions. This research is supported by university professors and will be used for student material at master level.
